On a cool summer night perfect for softball, fans at Saling Athletic Complex were treated to a fantastic defensive display by both teams, but Wayne pulled away for the 2-0 victory against Seymour.

The Lady Falcons will play BCLUW in Conrad, between Marshalltown and Cedar Falls, on Fri., July 12 at 7 p.m. BCLUW beat Central Decatur 9-1.

It was a pitcher’s dual between Warriorettes junior Thayda Houser and Wayne freshman Sterling Berndt. The score was 0-0 until the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Berndt hit a triple and scored to help her own cause.

The Warriorettes made several outstanding defensive plays to stay in the game, including Hannah Hinners’ leaping grab at the warning track on a long Maddy Wood hit, Dylan Murphy making an over-the-shoulder diving catch in foul territory all the way from second base, and catcher Kaitlyn Couchman slamming into the backstop to make the last out of the 5th inning.

Raegan Tilley and Camryn Jacobsen each had 1 hit and drove in a run for the Lady Falcons. Allie Wik continued her late-season surge with 2 hits and 1 run. Emily Jones also had 2 hits.

Berndt struck out 11.

For seniors Nadia Howell and Hinners, it was their final game in Seymour uniforms. The Warriorettes finished the 2019 season 17-14.

The Lady Falcons’ Camryn Jacobsen gets the scoring started with this RBI hit.
