Ronald Heston, of Corydon, passed away from complications from a stroke on June 4 at the age of 69 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, with his wife Linda at his side.
Ronald Ray Heston was born on June 17, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Mildred (Rynearson) Heston. He attended Ankeny schools and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1967. Growing up he enjoyed track, marching band, and working on cars.
Ron was united in marriage to Linda Morrill in 1970 in Granger, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born; Angela and Amy.
As a young man Ron served six years in the Army National Guard, where he trained at Fort Dix, N.J. then was transferred to Aberdeen, Maryland to service military vehicles.
He worked at Holmes Oldsmobile in downtown Des Moines for 15 years as an auto body and paint technician. He also enjoyed working on cars and hot rods at his Uncle Johnny Hestons’ shop during this time.
The family decided to relocate from Polk City to the Humeston/Derby area, where he managed the family farm for 35 years. During this time, Ron continued to do body, paint, and mechanic work for family and friends on the side. Ron also enjoyed driving the Amish for many years.
Ron loved fishing, boating and camping with their friends during his leisure time. He also treasured and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife Linda, daughters: Angela Robb (Eric) and Amy Elswick (Jon); grandchildren: Katelynn Robb, Hannah Starr, Hayleigh Starr, and Hayden Elswick; brothers: Roger Heston (Jean) and Randy Heston (Cathy), mother Mildred Heston and numerous extended family members and many friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father Richard Heston.
Visitation will be held at Corydon Bible Church on Mon., June 17 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Cemetery in Polk City, Iowa.
