Richard “Dick” Shockey, 81, of Danville, Illinois, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 17, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Dick was born on Sept. 5, 1937 in Lineville, Iowa, the son of Earl Dean and Noreen Avis (Gooden) Shockey. He married Jane Ellen Sponsler on Aug. 14, 1965 in Leon, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Ellen Shockey of Danville; one son, Rhett (Meara) Shockey of O’Fallon, Illinois; one brother, Rick Shockey of Bradenton, Florida; one sister, Patty Oliver of Osceola; two granddaughters, Rowan and Arden Shockey of O’Fallon, Illinois and many extended family and special friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State College, now Truman State University, and received his Masters and Specialized education from Drake University. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, the Danville Boat Club, served on the Civic Center Board, and was the Director of the NJCAA Basketball Tournament for many years. Dick was Vice President of Administration and Finance at DACC from 1989 to 2005 and CEO of Lakeview College of Nursing from 2004 to 2013.
A Celebration of Life occurred on Nov. 26, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating. Cremation Rites will be accorded following services and inurnment will be at a later date.
