Wayne dominated in their first action of the wrestling season at home on Nov. 30, beating Bedford-Lenox, 43-24, and Central Decatur, 51-24.

“The Falcons wrestled pretty well for the first meet of the season,” said head coach Joe Nekvinda, “but have plenty of things to improve on before the tough Pride of Iowa Conference tourney in late December.

“Our conditioning was better than our opponents, which helped us win some close matches. Having a nearly full line-up is a huge advantage for us in duals against opponents who often don’t fill several weights. We have several young kids who saw their first varsity action and they worked hard and picked up several wins.”

Against Bedford-Lenox, at 138 pounds, Jayden Halferty won by fall in 1:24. At 145, Hunter Clark lost by fall in 2:42. At 152, Hunter Cobb lost 6-3. At 160, Brady Langloss won 6-0. At 182, Ronan Raasch lost by fall in 1:23. At 195, Logan Smith won 9-0. At 285, Matt Bellon lost 9-3.

Against Central Decatur, at 113 pounds, Jakson Cobb lost by fall in 1:35. At 120, Trent Terrell won by fall in 2:27. At 145, Clark won 11-5. At 160, Langloss lost by fall in 3:28. at 170, Aaron Casey lost by fall in 3:14.

On Tues., Dec. 5, the Falcons travel to Davis County at 6 p.m. They then face Mount Ayr and Interstate 35 in Truro on Thurs., Dec. 7 at 6 p.m., before hitting the road again, this time at Central Decatur on Fri., Dec. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
